Hazel

I have always loved the name Hazel.  Her music is legend.

Coming back from a disastrous canoeing adventure (more on that later), they were doing a tribute to her on APHC.  The group on (including Garrison, odd.) sang Hills of Home.  I cried quiet tears.

There ain’t much that’s left here that ain’t all run down
Gone are the echoes of old familiar sound
Families are scattered parted and gone
Left a lot of good things to wither away back home

Can’t you feel those hills around you
Can’t you feel that touch of home
And don’t you wish you’d never gone
There are some things memories can’t bring home

I cried for the home I miss.  The sounds, the people-my people, the music, the oldest mountains, the comfort.  Her words brought me a painful comfort, like a comforting hand on your cheek.  That is the power of her music……and it will live on as her legacy.

Is it bad that I want to lick the sweat off of his cheek?

Black Lillies

Posted in Musical Menagerie by Wildology on August 18, 2010

A recent trend for wedding flowers was Black Calla Lillies.  I think they are beautiful, especially with a pop of white or pink in them. I always thought it was L-I-L-I-E-S.  I’m dumb.

But when I hear the name Black Lillies, I only think of one of my favorite bands.

Play this video.  Turn it up LOUD.

Watch a talented and Down-to-Earth group of people!  I have known Cruz (the cutie-pie lead singer) since the String Bean days of old.  Tom’s (via the Everybody Fields) guitar solo at 3:30 is so sexy.  The only one missing is my sweet sweet Trisha Gene (she traded places with Leah {another Super Star}).  TGB is playing in the second video…man I love her pipes, not to mention her incredible heart………I am lucky enough to call her friend.

Anyway, they are an incredible band from home.  Check them out!
